“We support the work of Abilities First has given me and our family peace of mind for my sister for over 32 years. I am grateful they are here for us and others in our community.”
—Family Member of Abilities First, Judy V.
OUR MISSION
To provide people with disabilities and their families support to attain independence, self-determination, integration and acceptance by others through education exploration and experience.
HOW WE MAKE AN IMPACT
Families rely on Abilities First and the outstanding care their loved ones receive each day. Whether attending an early intervention, educational school site, or adult program or services, trained staff are available. Individuals can rely on the Abilities First staff for outreach, compassion, and services. Each Abilities First site or program provides families with a sense of security for some to return to work, knowing staff are knowledgeable, caring, and friendly and are located in a safe, well-equipped environment. Adult services programs are community integrated as much as possible to provide a wide variety of experiences and exposure to people and places in our communities. In adult services programs, people continue to build skills relevant to their unique developmental needs.
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
Charitable support is vital to assuring that our community continues to access the best in educational programs and support services. The Foundation for Abilities First offers many ways your carefully planned gift has the power to provide for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We invite you to consider joining our Monthly, Legacy, and Planned Giving, which touch the lives of over 1,400 individuals and families throughout the Hudson Valley. Your gift continues to strengthen the mission’s impact of providing additional funds to those we serve.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Make a difference in the lives of your community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Volunteer opportunities can be remote or in person, and you can choose on-going or once a year at our annual community events or school-age educational and adult programs sites.
