OUR MISSION
Empowering children and families to achieve optimal health and well being.
HOW WE MAKE AN IMPACT
On January 21, 1847, a group of women met to form the Poughkeepsie Orphan House and Home for the Friendless to care for the poor, abandoned, and neglected in their communities, most especially the children. 175 years later, their work continues.
Today, the Children’s Home provides a full range of Community Based Services, Unaccompanied Minor Shelter Services, Child Welfare Residential Services, and a Facility Service Dog program, giving healing and hope to at-risk children. The Home is licensed by the New York State Office of Children & Family Services, the Office of Mental Health, and the Department of Health. In 2021, 600 children and their families received services.
GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
When you give to the Children’s Home your donation helps to provide healing and hope to a child or family that needs it most. We are grateful every day for all those who open their hearts to help make the lives of vulnerable children and families safe, healthy, and happy. Visit our website to learn more about ways to give. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers play a crucial role in our work to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in our care. We are fortunate to have developed close relationships with many individuals, schools, colleges, businesses, and community groups who volunteer their time to help further our mission. Volunteer opportunities are limited at this time due to the pandemic.
