Our Mission:
The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie is a 175-year-old organization dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment that improves lives and empowers at-risk children and families in the Hudson Valley and surrounding communities.
How We Make an Impact:
On January 21, 1847, a group of women met to form the Poughkeepsie Orphan House and Home of the Friendless to care for the poor, abandoned, and neglected in their communities, most especially the children. 175 years later, their work continues. Today, the Children’s Home provides a full range of Community Based and Residential Services giving hope and healing to at-risk children throughout New York. The Home is licensed by the New York State Office of Children & Family Services, the Office of Mental Health, and the Department of Health. In 2020 over 400 children and their families were served.
Giving Opportunities:
When you give to the Children’s Home, your donation helps to provide healing and hope to a child or family that needs it most. We are grateful for all those who open their hearts to help make the lives of vulnerable children and families safe, healthy, and happy. Visit our website to learn more about ways to give. Every donation makes a difference.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers play a crucial role in our work to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in our care. We are fortunate to have developed close relationships with many community members and groups who volunteer their time to help further our mission. Volunteer opportunities are limited at this time due to the pandemic.
